Winemaker Notes
Saintsbury's Sangiacomo Vineyard Chardonnay is an astounding value and a truly versatile wine. The Sangiacomo family are some of the best grape growers in the region with extensive holdings across Carneros. Fruit from these immaculately farmed vineyards typically goes into much more expensive bottlings often surpassing $50. To find it designated for under $20 is extremely rare! Not only that, but Saintsbury's team has expertly crafted this into a wine that captures both the richness and restraint this grape is capable of. The wine shows orchard blossom on the nose, freshly buttered toast with marmalade. The subtle oak maturation adds a creamy noisette quality without being heavy or "oaky." Saline mineral tones and brisk coastal acidity gives great length and drive on the palate finishing with citrus zesty and almond paste. Tastes much more expensive than it is. Enough richness for those who like a weightier style of Chard, but plenty for freshness and minerality for those who appreciate a more focused finish.
