France's Oldest Sparkling Wine

Wine Enthusiast-90 Points

This is a solid traditional-method sparkling rosé. The wine has a nose of golden apple, fresh green pear and white blossom. It is bright and fresh with a twist of lemon citrus that chimes in on the attack and lives forward to the finish with lively acidity that complements the fruit. Open this bottle when guests arrive for a backyard barbecue during the long wait before the main course is actually ready to serve.

Winemaker Notes

Saint-Hilaire Brut displays aromatic flavors of peach, pear and green apple skins with a wonderful, full, creamy mouthfeel. Think non vintage Champagne for a fraction of the cost.

History of Saint Hilaire

Blanquette de Limoux is probably the oldest sparkling wine in the world. We know that in 1531, the Benedictine Monks of the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire were already producing Blanquette de Limoux which certainly makes it France's Oldest Sparkling Wine preceding Champagne by more than a century The Limoux vineyards are located in Languedoc, in Southern France, at the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. The grapes are selected from clay-limestone plots that capture both the Oceanic and Mediterranean influences.
