Varietal: 100% Tempranillo
94 Points Wine Enthusiast
This deep-violet Tempranillo has a nose of blackberry pie with a touch of nutmeg. It is simultaneously spicy and fresh, with brilliant acidity and mint tea, star anise, cherry and raspberry flavors wrapped in a sheath of opulent tannins.
92 Points Falstaff
Fresh, fruity-balsamic bouquet with notes of sour cherry, plum, raspberry and liquorice. Hints of chili and cocoa as well as a cool spiciness. Comparatively lean and elegant on the palate, with supporting acidity, dark and red berryish fruit and subtle roasted notes. Fine-grained tannins, long finish.
Winemaker Notes
"17" by Pinea captures the elusive combination of intense concentration and lifted, complex aromatics that distinguishes the best Ribera del Duero wines. The lifted aromatics and elegant, supple body of "17" by Pinea is particularly appealing and a departure from the more aggressive, heavily extracted style typically found in wines from the region. To enhance the perfumed aromatics, decant for about 30 minutes before serving at a cool 60 degrees and use a Burgundy stem. Enjoy now and in the next 10-15 years with hearty dishes like lamb-chops, any kind of steak and game food.
