94 Points Jeb Dunnuck
More savory and reserved on the nose, the 2023 Vouvray Sec Clos Du Bourg pours a shimmering straw hue and boasts some classic Chenin calling card notes of hay, crushed stones, and citrus pith. The palate is refreshing, but at this stage it feels a bit hollow through the mid-palate, with its charming and more pure pear-noted fruit hovering upfront and its lifted acidity following through on the finish. It likely will benefit from more time to harmonize and come together more completely as it fleshes out with some age. This site should be up there with the best offerings, but it’s difficult for me to see where this wine is going to land at this youthful stage. Drink 2025-2035.
93 Points James Suckling
The aromas of floral honey, cashew nuts and butter are married to a brioche character reminiscent of good Champagne, but this is completely still. On the medium-bodied palate, the interplay of honeyed creaminess and elegant acidity is enchanting, the wine gliding over your palate. Long, supple finish. From biodynamically grown grapes.
93 Points Wine Spectator
Alluring and aromatic, this seduces with honeysuckle, quince and orchard fruit wrapped in salty, leesy notes on the palate, with a hint of toast. Salty density builds toward the finish, with bitter mineral notes bringing balance along with the tangy, mouthwatering acidity. Hints of garlic scape and alpine herbs make for a fresh, clean finish. Built to last. Drink now through 2037.
Winemaker Notes
This ancient, walled vineyard was acquired in 1953. It has estate's the shallowest, stoniest soils and produces wines of great depth and richness. Many consider the six ha Clos du Bourg to be Vouvray’s finest single site.
