93 Points James Suckling
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is fabulous. Plump and vibrant, with good up-front fruit and bright acids, the 2021 captures the essence of modern classicism that is typical of the Heitz wines today. This is a superb entry-level offering from Heitz. Floral overtones brighten the finish.
93 Points Wine Spectator
A reserved, streamlined version, with fine-grained cedar and savory threads running through a core of gently mulled cherry, fresh damson plum and red currant coulis notes. There's pretty perfume on the finish.
Winemaker Notes
One sniff and anticipation takes hold. Beautiful aromas of vine-ripened blackberry contrast perfectly with spicy notes of nutmeg. There are a luscious weight and texture to the wine, but also a racy edge of well-balanced acidity on the palate. This is an extraordinary Cabernet – powerful, yet elegant, with all the wonderful aging potential you’ve come to expect from Heitz wines. The 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon embraces the classic Heitz Cellar characteristics with aromatic black and red fruit, sandalwood, cedar, and herbs de Provence, complemented by soft tannins from the signature aging process. Abundant rainfall in the winter, followed by a long, warm summer provided an even growing season with long hang time on the vine.
The 2021 Heitz Cellar Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is in a ripe but fresh style, with polished tannins and ample acidity that will serve well for medium to long-term cellaring.
