95 Points James Suckling
This is really aromatic with wonderful dried flower petal and plums plus hints of cinnamon. Full body, soft and velvety. Long and flavorful. Unique decadent flavor profile to this. Better after 2019.
Winemaker Notes
2013 was truly a magnificent year for the Napa Valley. The Cain Concept shows great structure and intensity, with a solid core of ripe fruit. I’m thinking, cherry pudding, cocoa, and tobacco. As soon as you pour yourself a glass, from your first sip, you’ll know that you’ll be able to enjoy the 2013 Cain Concept all evening long. It will also age beautifully in your cellar for many years to come.
The core of our Cain Concept—The Benchland is about Cabernet Sauvignon from the classical “benchlands” of the Napa Valley. These are the alluvial fan benches that form at the foot of the mountains lining the edges of the valley floor. We think that the Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the eastern and western benches of Oakville, Rutherford, and St. Helena have defined the greatness of the Napa Valley for more than 100 years. But, on its own the Cabernet Sauvignon can be a bit simple, so, in the “Cain Way,” we have blended judicious quantities of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot to build complexity, to add nuance, to articulate the structure, and to add length to the finish of the wine.
